Dead Pedal for FFR Roadster
Jim Savoy
It was actually pretty
simple. I stopped by the Mazda boneyard
and bought a Miata dead pedal (1990-1998) for approximately $15.00.
The dead pedal is attached
to the Miata bulkhead with two long screws.
I simply cut a wedge of hard wood (2x4) and arranged the angle of the wedge so
that my foot felt comfortable.
The angle that felt best for
me was with about 4 inches on the equal sides of the wedge.
This made it an isosceles
right triangle for you geometry fans.
I painted the entire wooden wedge black.
I then used long screws to
attach the dead pedal to the hypotenuse (long side) of the wedge. This made a
pretty sturdy unit.
If you want more or less
angle, for your individual foot and leg position, simply make the two equal
sides (on my setup) unequal (vertical side either longer for more foot angle or
shorter for less foot angle).
I fitted the entire piece so
that the two equal sides were against the bottom and front of the driver's foot
box and measured from the outside of the foot box such that I was able to drill
holes through the aluminum and into the wood wedge. I fastened the wedge to the
footbox wall and floor with long screws and sealed the screw heads with
silicone. It looks like an original
dead pedal.
Hope this makes your driving more comfortable,
