The National Auto Sport Association Announces
The Factory Five Racing Challenge Series!
The Northern California Region of the National Auto Sport Association (NASA) is announcing a new West Coast racing series based on a replica of one of the most exciting cars ever made. The dream of many racers is to find the perfect racecar that has the optimum combination of performance, safety, and affordability. Now for less than the price of a Spec Racer or good Improved Touring Car, you can build and race a car utilizing the Ford Mustang 5.0 liter V8 engine, with proven reliability and longevity. NASA and Factory Five Racing (FFR) have joined together to promote and support a national and regional level competitive program that focuses on safety, reliability, and affordable racing in an exciting wheel-to-wheel racing format.
The new race series will feature the 427 Roadster spec racer from Factory Five Racing. The Factory Five Racing 427 Roadster is a true racecar which has been designed and built from the ground up with a full tubular steel chassis, aluminum substructure and a hand-crafted vinylester resin (fiberglass) body. The racecar features tubular control arms, fully adjustable coil over suspension and vented 4 wheel disk brakes.
The Factory Five Racing Challenge Series was originally established in 1999, in the Virginia Region of NASA as the result of a common quest between NASA and FFR. Since it's inception, the series has provided outstanding racing action and spectator appeal. As a result, the Factory Five Racing Challenge Series is being launched in NASA's Northern California region in 2001, with an increased racing schedule planned in 2002.
Affordable Racing
The cost of the basic kit is $13,490, plus the cost of the donor parts from a 1989 to 1993, 5.0 liter Ford Mustang. The average cost of building a car to date is about 17,500. Based on data from the 2000 season debut of this premier series on the East Coast, it is safe to say the concept of reliability due to the use of the stock drive train has more than proven itself, and has fulfilled the objective of creating a series with the emphasis on reliability and relatively low maintenance costs.
In an effort to get the Factory Five Racing Challenge Series off to a solid start in the Northern California Region, Factory Five Racing and NASA have agreed to subsidize the season debut by offering a special introductory price for seven 427 Roadster spec racer kits. The first seven spec racer kits will be priced at only $10,500!
In addition, the first five buyers to complete their spec racers and compete in a NASA Northern California Region race will be paid appearance money by NASA, which will offset the cost of entry for the first four race weekends! This series is a great way to relive yesteryear when cars like the 427 Roadster dominated the raceways of America. It is also a great series for those racers that put sportsmanship ahead of winning, as well as for the budget minded racer. From rookie to pro, this series offers a level playing field for all drivers. The Factory Five Racing Challenge Series presents a classic image to sponsors and race fans alike, while providing the legendary performance, power, speed and thrills that have already made this a very successful series for NASA and Factory Five Racing on the East Coast.
